An anaesthetic system (10) is disclosed with a mass spectrometer (11) for simultaneously determining levels of oxygen, anaesthetic gas and nitrogen in the positive pressure gas. The composition of the inspiratory gas and expiratory gas is determined by the mass spectrometer (11) and forwarded as a measurement signal to a control unit (12) such as a computer, allowing the anaesthetic system to be automated. |
