<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new specific cobalt Schiff base complex, excellent in oxygen adsorbing and desorbing ability and stability, providing a solution capable of separating oxygen from a gas by dissolving the complex in a polar solvent or a mixed solvent of the polar solvent and a hydrophobic solvent. SOLUTION: This new cobalt Schiff base complex is shown by the formula [R1 is a (substituted) phenylene, a (substituted) pyridylene or a (substituted) alkylene; R2 to R6 are each H, a (substituted) phenyl, a (substituted) alkyl, a halogen or a (substituted) alkoxy; Me is methyl], is excellent in oxygen adsorbing and desorbing ability, is stable and is capable of separating oxygen from an oxygen-containing gas such as air in high efficiency by dissolving the complex in a polar solvent or a mixed solvent of the polar solvent and a hydrophobic solvent. The complex is obtained by reacting a diol compound with a 2-chloromethyl-3-chloropropene, reacting the reaction product with a salicylaldehyde derivative in the presence of a base, thermally decomposing the resultant substance, reacting the decomposition product with 2,3-diamino-2,3- dimethylbutane and reacting a formed Schiff base with a Co salt.</p> |
