METHOD AND DEVICE FOR OUTLINE EXTRACTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an outline font generated by faithfully tracing the outline of a dot pattern of low resolution. SOLUTION: The outline of dot pattern is represented by connecting longitudinal or lateral outline vectors 11 stepwise. A 1st direction vector group 16 obtained by connecting one end 11A of each outline vector 11 in order and a 2nd direction vector group 17 obtained by connecting the other end 11B in order are found. When one feature point is set on each outline vector, the feature point is decided as a smooth or edge point according to the angle between the 1st direction vector and 2nd direction vector nearby the feature point.
