PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform detailed correction corresponding to a luminance distribution. SOLUTION: A digitized luminance value Y is passed through a conversion ROM 3, a luminance-by-area distribution circuit 4, and an ADRC circuit 5 from an A/D converting circuit 2, and then the frequency distribution of all luminance values of one field or one frame is encoded by areas and outputted as an (n)-bit code. Pixels divided into blocks about a pixel of interest are encoded through a block dividing circuit 7 and an ADRC circuit 8 and outputted as an (m)-bit code. The luminance values of the pixels in the blocks are averaged through a block dividing circuit 9 and an averaging circuit 10 and shifted, and outputted as a (p)-bit code. A degeneration ROM 11 degenerates the data from (n+m+p) bits to (q) bits and coefficient data corresponding to the class code of the (q) bits is read out of a coefficient ROM 14, so that the sum of products is calculated. |
