LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the exchange of defective pixel electrodes and switching elements by arranging the pixel electrodes and switching elements on island- shaped release layers within their respective contours. SOLUTION: The transparent pixel electrodes 26 respectively corresponding to plural pixels and TFTs(Thin Film Transistors) are disposed on an array substrate. Transparent counter electrodes are disposed a counter substrate. The pixel electrodes 26 are formed within the contours of the islands of the release layers 56. The entire surface of the array substrate inclusive of the defective pixel 72 is coated with a resist film 74. Next, the resist film 74 is exposed and developed so as not to exist any more. The parts of the gate insulating films 64 and the parts of coating films 58 along the contours of the island-shaped release layers 56 are removed and the conductive parts are removed. The exposed released layers 56 are removed by etching to remove the defective pixel 72. The defective pixel 72 is thereafter vacuum sucked and removed. Further, the etchant is removed by washing with water and a spare pixel 78 is mounted in the repair hole 76 after the defective pixel 72 is removed.
