PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst combustion device which carries out easily a preparatory heating operation that preheats a catalyst area up to a specified temperature at which a combustion gas is catalyst-burnt. SOLUTION: This device comprises a preparatory combustion unit 13 which preparatorily heats catalyst areas 12 and 15 by flame combustion of a fuel gas and a gas flow passage which introduces the combustion gas by way of the first catalyst area 12 and leads a diluted fuel gas and mixes the diluted fuel gas with an excessively enriched fuel gas and then leads the mixed gas to the second catalyst area 15. The concentrations of the excessively enriched fuel gas and diluted fuel gas are set so that the concentration of the mixed gas may be within a combustible range before the catalyst combustion by the first catalyst area 12 and out of the combustion range during the catalyst combustion.
