Method of cooling and removing swarf for honing operation

The method involves the using gas, preferably air, without the addition of other fluid or solid materials, as a cooling and swarf removing medium (30) for the working surface (21) of the tool (15). The gas is under medium pressure, preferably between 3 and 10 bar. The gas is directed in a jet against the rear face of the working surface of the tool in the direction of rotation of the honing tool (14). The gas may be fed into the tool head and a brush may be used to remove swarf mechanically.
