<p>A radial inflow centrifugal filter device (100) for separating fine particulates from a fluid flow, including a rotatable plurality of hollow parallel disks (110) mounted in spaced apart relationship and attached via spacers to a hollow drive tube (120). The hollow drive tube is in flow communication with the interior plenum (130) of the disks. Particulate-laden fluid is allowed to enter the filter device at the perimeter of the rotating disks. As the particulates and fluid enter, they experience a change in momentum due to the boundary layers established on each side of every disk. The particulates are quickly expelled from the perimeter entrance of the filter device into the protective cowling surrounding the filter device. The filtered fluid continues its motion through the rotating disks, into the central plenum and through the hollow tube.</p> |
