TITANATE WHISKER AND PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF

A titanate whisker characterized by high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and reinforcing performance and low thermal conductivity. The whisker is represented by the general formula: AvAwMxMyTi3-zO16, wherein A<> <1 is at least one member selected from among alkali metals; A is Ba; M is at least one member selected from among Mg, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu and Mn; M is at least one member selected from among Al, Sc, Cr, Fe and Ga; and v, w, x, y and z are real numbers satisfying the relationships: 0,5≤2x+y≤2,5, 2x+y=v+2w and z=x+y.
