Method and apparatus for cooling cast and rolled metal products

The method concerns cooling, with the assistance of a cooling medium, of metal products obtained directly from a cast or rolled strip. It is characterized by the fact that the products are subjected to a cooling gas whose heat transfer capacity is at least 5-10 times greater than the value of the expression: (effective radiation constant of the hot material)x(ambient temperature of the hot material)<3>x(thickness of the cooling gas layer governing the heat transfer process). Also claimed is an apparatus for implementation of the method.
