The disclosure relates to a photographic camera using a ccd as the sensor element for photometry. The problem is the limited dynamic range of the photometer. The solution is the adjustment of the dynamic range so that it is appropriate to the photographic situation. This adjustment is achieved by adjusting the integration time for the ccd output. The necessary adjustment is determined by using the photometer itself to determine the light intensity in the most important part of the photographic field. The most important part of the field could be the part used for focus detection. Alternatively, it could be the part in which the light intensity does not exceed a predetermined threshold so that, in cases of subjects with strong backlighting, photometry is based on the subject and not on the backlighting. <IMAGE> |
