<p>An apparatus for decoding a video bitstream according to the MPEG standard restores variable length decoded data at a processing speed required in a high-speed system. The decoding apparatus includes a variable length decoder 120 outputting header data and symbols, a data distributor 130 alternately outputting the symbols in units of a block via two output terminals, first and second restorers 140, 150 individually connected to the two output terminals of the data distributor 130 for restoring the input symbols in response to an encoding indication signal for indicating whether each block is encoded, a header analyser 170 for receiving the header data from the variable length decoder 120 and outputting the encoding indication signal, and a macroblock formation unit 160 for reconstructing blocks of the data restored by the first and second restorers 140, 150 into a macroblock.</p> |
