Process for making aminoanthraquinone blue colourants

A process for producing an aminoanthraquinone dye wherein quinizarin and/or its leucoderivative is reacted with one or more aliphatic amines. Instead of the conventional aromatic solvents used in the prior art, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a glycol and/or a glycol ether. A smaller quantity of solvent can be used than in the conventional process, and the excess of amine can be reduced.
