GLASS SUBSTRATE FOR MAGNETIC DISK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate for a magnetic disk which copes with the tendency for floating to a lower level and is formed with a fine and stable- shaped texture. SOLUTION: The glass substrate for the magnetic disk is so constituted that the main surface of the glass substrate contg. 0.2 to 3wt.% oxide of a trasition metal in its glass composition and having a light absorption coefficient of >=0.03μm<-1> at a wavelength of 266nm of the glass is selectively irradiated with a laser beam having wavelength within the ultraviolet region in plural positions spaced with a certain interval, and ring-shaped projecting parts are formed on the surface of the glass substrate within a certain target region located at each of the positions shaped with a certain interval.
