PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain enough mechanical strength even at the time of adjusting a gap of a liquid crystal cell without inducing abnormal orientation of a liquid crystal by using specified colored polymer fine particles. SOLUTION: This colored polymer fine particle has such a structure that the inner part is colored with a pigment and the surface is colored by another method other than a method using a pigment. The average particle size is 0.1-5000μm with <=50% coefft. of variation of the particle size. As for the pigment to color the inner part, any org. pigment or inorg. pigment which is insoluble or hardly soluble in water or an org. solvent can be used and a single pigment or a mixture of pigments may be used. As for the coloring method other than a method using a pigment, such methods are preferable that after the polymer fine particles are treated with an acid, the particles are dyed with a basic dye, that a water-soluble polymer prepared by polymn. of ethylene type unsatd. sulfonic acid or its salt is dyed with a basic dye, or that hardened spherical particles of a thermosetting amino acid resin are dyed with an acid dye at high temp. in the presence of a solvent.
