Oscillating rasp for use in an orthopaedic surgical procedure

Oscillating rasps for the surgical preparation of the bone prior to the implantation of a glenoid or acetabular component with complex geometry are disclosed. Surgical methods for the use of such oscillating rasps are also disclosed.

1. A method of surgically implanting a glenoid component into the glenoid of a patient, comprising:
drilling an anchor hole into the glenoid of the patient, securing an anchor surface of a rasp guide into the glenoid of the patient, the rasp guide including a concave guide surface that is opposite the anchor surface and an anchor peg extending perpendicularly therefrom, oscillating a surgical rasp over the rasp guide such that the concave guide surface guides the surgical rasp to abrade bone tissue to form a cavity shaped to receive the glenoid component, and implanting the glenoid component in the cavity, wherein oscillating the surgical rasp includes pivoting the surgical rasp along an arced path to define a concave posterior glenoid surface, and wherein securing the rasp guide into the glenoid of the patient comprises inserting the anchor peg of the rasp guide in the drilled anchor hole.
