An additive for building material mixes containing water consists of: (a) 1-80 wt.% water-soluble cellulose derivative (I) containing sulphonic acid, carboxylic acid or sulphate groups; and (b) 20-99 wt.% of a vinyl (co)polymer (II) and/or a condensation product (III) based on materials forming aminoplastics or aryl compounds and formaldehyde (HCHO), which contains sulphonic and/or carboxylic acid groups.
