The electrophotographic printer, or photocopier, uses toner and pigment to process the charge image. After each print process the surplus toner and pigment are removed from the dielectric layer prior to re-charging. The removed materials are collected in a special container (50) made of conducting material and connected to earth. The earth connection is via a flexible lead attached to the container or via a flange on the container secured to the support frame, which is earthed. The container can be made conducting using a carbon filling of between 15 to 20 percent by weight. The resulting material has a specific resistance of less than 10<8> ohms per cm.
