PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent decrease in engine horsepower as well as to contrive decrease in weight of a rack bar. SOLUTION: A rack bar is constituted of a rack part 1A of a hollow material and a thread part 1B, a pinion 32 fixed to a steering shaft 31 is meshed with the rack part 1A, a ball screw mechanism 33 for moving it in the screw axial direction is fitted to the screw part 1B, the screw mechanism 33 is rotated by an electric motor, and the ball screw mechanism 33 is operated and moves the rack bar in the steering direction.
