The device consists of two plates (5) equipped with orthopaedic boots (10) and joined by a flexible connector (1). The flexible connector allows the feet to be moved relative to one another while each plate applies a rotational force to the feet about a pivot (7) by a spring. The rotational effort applied to each foot tends to turn it through an angle of up to 90 degrees, either inwards or outwards, with the angle determined by an adjustable stop (6). The spring can be made from either glass or carbon fibres, wound in four turns round a 6 mm diameter pivot.
