PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refractive index distribution type lens showing excellent correcting property for color aberration and a curvature of field. SOLUTION: This optical element consists of a synthetic resin which is a copolymer of at least two monomers (A) and (B). When each monomer (A) and (B) is polymerized separately, the refractive index n and the Abbe numberνof each polymer are in the relation of n(A)>n(B) andν(A)>ν(B), respectively. With the higher ratio of the monomer (A) compounded in the resin, the resin has the higher refractive index, higher refractive index and larger Abbe number. Thus, the obtd. element shows excellent correcting property for color aberration and the curvature of field.
