PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the precision of automatic selection of an area where a principal object exsist in an observation picture. SOLUTION: Area division means 102 and 103 which divide the observation face into areas based on plural distance measurement or defocus extent detection results and an area extraction means 104 which extracts at least one area, where the principal object exists, from plural areas divided by area division means and operates the degree of inclination of the object to the optical axis of an objective lens based on plural distance measurement results and takes it as a discrimination element of the principal object are provided, and the degree of inclination of the object is operated, and this inclination information and absolute distance information or the defocus extent are synthetically evaluated, thereby determining the principal object. |
