System for removal of radioactive ions from flowing ground water

Flowing ground water is treated to remove radioactive ions by a plant with sealing walls (1) positioned below the region of the ground water, the walls having openings (2) leading to vertical shafts (3) containing ion exchanger aggregates (4)., through which the ground water passes. Treated water is discharged (5) from the shaft (5). The ion exchanger is selected according to the radioactive ions to be removed and replaces them with non-radioactive ions. The sealing walls are preferably in a ridge shape with ridge slits. Ion exchanger is preferably replaced when it has reached a certain level of radioactive ion loading.
