The hay-making machine consists of a frame with a number of rotors carrying tools which overlap as they rotate with the tools on neighbouring rotors. The rotors are turned about vertical or slightly inclined axes by transmission shafts (24,26) running through transverse frame members with articulated joints (6) between their central (2) and outer (4) sections, the joints having vertical pivots (10) which allow the outer frame sections to be turned towards the rear for transporting. The transmission shafts are connected at the articulated joints (6) by couplings (31,32) with teeth (33) which mesh when the shafts are engaged. Each of the couplings also has a projection (34) which ensures that the rotors are correctly positioned when the couplings are engaged, so that the tools on one rotor pass between those on the neighbouring one. Each of the projections is approximately semi-circular in section and forms an extension to the end of a transmission shaft while being about the same length as the meshing teeth.
|
