PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the above new compound excellent in contrast in its color development and color fading and in the repeated durability of reversible color development/color fading and light resistance, thus useful for reversible recording media such as copying materials and facsimiles. SOLUTION: This new compound is a spiropyran derivative of formula I (R1 is a 1-11C alkyl, 1-20C aryl, 1-6C methylene chain-bearing methacryloxy, etc.; R2 -R5 are each H, an alkyl, hydroxyl, amino, alkylamino, nitro, halogen, alkoxyl, cyano, etc., but all of them being not H). The compound of formula I is e.g. a spiropyran derivative of formula II which is obtained by refluxing under heating for 5h 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-methylene-5-methoxyindoline and 3,5- dinitrosalicylaldehyde in ethanol. |
