The motorised control comprises two inversely threaded sections (64,65) supporting two nuts (66,67), each fitted with a lateral peg (68). The shaft is turned by a motor (85) and rests in a tube (71) having two longitudinal slots (73,74). The slots serve as guides for the projecting pegs (68). A pair of cables (1,3) have their ends connected to the projecting pegs. The cables extend through the endoscope, and at the distal end are arranged to move ring elements in order to change the orientation of the head of the endoscope. Two such devices may be used together in order to control four cables so that the orientation of the endoscope head may be adjusted to any desired direction.
