A binding for a snowboard or the like, consisting of a front assembly for holding the forwardmost boot and a rear assembly for holding the rearmost boot. Each assembly consists of two abutments and is designed to secure the boot to the board for as long as the stress on the boot is under a threshold level, and release the boot when the stress exceeds the threshold level. The binding further comprises a means for coupling the rear abutment of the front assembly to the front abutment of the rear assembly so that both boots are released when the stress on one or both boots exceeds said threshold level. Said coupling means includes a locking means releasable by the pressure of at least one of the boots.
