<p>The invention provides a direct current boost converter which has a simple structure using only one coil, and which can apply a driving voltage to a capacitive load which reciprocates in polarity. The first direct current branch circuit (14), which is composed of the first and second transistors (12) and (13), is connected in parallel to the second direct current branch circuit (17), composed of the third and fourth transistors (15) and (16), the coil (18) is connected between the nodes of the transistors of these direct current branch circuits, these nodes are further connected to both terminals of the EL panel (21) through the first and second diodes (19) and (20), and the nodes between these first and second diodes and the EL panel (21) are grounded through the fifth and sixth transistors (22) and (23), respectively.
