Hydrothermally stable zeolite is obtained by surface treating a zeolite with a solution of a basic aluminium salt containing aluminium-oxo-hydroxocations of type Al13 or Al poly in the pH of 3-6.5, and then with a strong base to precipitate out the aluminium hydroxide, and removing the base and washing the zeolite before heating to 400-950 deg C until the appearance of water-stable little crystalline alumina modifications.
