Determining speed of object over ground or water using Doppler radar sensor

The method is carried out using the averaged zero position distance. A frequency distribution of the determined zero position distances is produced, and is selected as an estimated value for the expected average zero position distances of the zero position distance with the greatest frequency. The estimated value for the expected average value of the zero position distances lies in the interval between a specified top distance limit value and a specified low distance limit value. The determination regarding the zero position distances is carried out with the exclusion of the extreme distances exceeding the specified top distance limit and those distances failing to reach the specified lower distance limit value.
