PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a map display apparatus by which a desired running route between a starting point and an end point can be grasped simply and accurately together with related character information. SOLUTION: Related character information on a running route is displayed at the lower end part of a screen. Running route information which is received by a receiving device 4 and the related character information are stored in a RAM 10. When the running-route access operation and the selection operation of a VICS are performed by a key operating device 6, a CPU 8 at a vehicle-carried navigation apparatus body 7 uses information which is stored temporarily and map information which is stored in a CD-ROM 1, and it decides a largest reduction scale at which the vehicle of a desired running route can be put into the screen so as not to be overlapped with the related character information. Then, a map image is plotted on a video RAM 11 at the reduction scale in such a way that the whole of the running route can be put into the screen without being overlapped with the related character information, and the running route can be plotted at the same reduction scale as the map image so as to be capable of being discriminated from other roads. In a synthesis circuit 12, it is output to a display apparatus 5 in the form of a video signal in a prescribed region at the lower part of the map image while the related vehicle information is being synthesized. |
