PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to print a character without being overlapped even when the character is set to an arbitrary size. SOLUTION: A first arithmetic part 21 calculates the width of the printing space to which a second size is set and calculates the number of the half-em character of the first size to be printed to the width of the printing space. The number of half-em data to be added is determined by substrating the character to which the the second size is set by the number converted into the half-em from the number of the calculated half-em character. When half-em data to be added exists, a dummy code conversion part 23 extracts a dummy code from a system external character 15, converts the code into the half-em data of the number to be added. A dummy code insertion part 24 inserts the dummy code data of the converted number, succeeding to the character of a document preparing memory 11.
