Adjustable steering column assembly for a motor vehicle

The automobile adjustable steering column comprises a fixing structure with webs (3,4) between which the adjustable column body (5) is located. The body is locked in position by clamping the webs against complementary body surfaces (7,8) by means of a tie rod (9). The tie rod which extends between the webs is displaceable between active and retracted positions. These positions respectively lock and free the body relative to the webs. Elastic leaf spring (13) supports the body in position, one end connected to the structure and the other end to the tie rod. The leaf spring end connected to the tie rod forms a strut extending between the complementary surfaces of the column body. The body end corresponding to the leaf spring has the form of a tie rod reception cage. The leaf spring has a central slot (14).
