In a windscreen or back window assembly of a car body flanges 17 of the surrounding structural members extend into the openings and are received in a groove 23 in a sealing strip 21 which also includes a recess bounded by side walls 27, 28 receiving the glass panel 11 with only the inner and end surfaces of the panel contiguous with the walls 27, 28 and a bonding agent, such as an epoxy resin being interposed between the walls 27, 28 and the panel to retain permanently the panel and strip in assembled relationship. As shown the plastic interlayer 31 of a laminated glass panel extends beyond the glass sheets and forms the bonding material between the strip 21 and the glass by doubling it over the edge and back up the surface contiguous with the wall 27 of the recess. A moulding strip 34 has a leg 33 received in a groove in the strip and alternatively the strip 34 may be united to the flange 17 to form a U-section member adapted to receive the panel 11, Fig. 4, with the plastic layer 31 bonded to the metal U-section, and the strip 34 has a flange 38 on the inner leg 37 terminating in a locking bead 39 engaged in a retention groove 41 in strip 21. The strip 21 has a tip 25 which overlaps a strip in the cowl sheet metal 13. |
