A safety valve for use with infusion devices, has a special highly sensitive structure to allow the passage of liquids, even at low pressure and very low flow rates, in one direction, while at the same time it stops the blood flow, even at low pressure, in the opposite direction. The valve therefore does not interfere with the usual infusion application, by allowing the flow of the infusion liquids into the patient's vein. If, however, the infusion tubes become accidentally disconnected and blood starts flowing out of the vein, then the valve closes to prevent patient's blood loss. The valve includes means for secure attachment to the patient, to ensure it remains in place to perform its safety function. The safety valve further includes means to prevent the formation of air bubbles which are dangerous to patients. Bypass means allow to cancel the valve operation, to allow bidirectional liquid flow when required. Safety valve used as an addition to a presently used infusion device includes flexible partitions to allow the insertion of a medical hollow needle therethrough, to allow the insertion of the flexible infusion tube into the vein. Flexible partition, made of rubber or a similar material, is used to add medications to the infusion, as required, by inserting a needle of a syringe therethrough. |
