The invention relates to a method for producing a circular-arc shaped stone element (2) from an elongated stone block (1). The method involves cutting the stone block (1) by having a rotating cylindrical tool (2), having a diameter which exceeds the width of the stone block (1). In the method, the stone element (2) is produced by bringing the stone block (1) and the cylindrical tool (3) into alignment with each other and by using the rotating cylindrical tool (3) for producing an initial cut extending essentially through the stone block (1), then by retracting the cylindrical tool (3) out of the stone block (1) and then by advancing the stone block (1) and/or the cylindrical tool (3) relative to each other lengthwise of the stone block (1) a distance corresponding to the desired thickness of the stone element (2) and by effecting another cutting operation through the stone block (1). The resulting stone element (2) has the same radius in each cut surface (8, 9).
