Clamp for fixing workpiece to e.g. workbench

The clamp has a holding down plate (1) projecting sideways from a clamping peg (4) which is inserted into a circular hole (10) in the working surface (11). A partial cylindrical wedge (6) fits around part of the peg and is attached to a gripping lever (2). The components can be plastics, aluminium or diecast. The holding down plate is pushed down into contact with the workpiece on the bench as the peg enters the hole at a slight angle to the vertical and is held in position by the jamming action of the wedge against the sides of the hole. The bending moment generated in the peg is transferred around into the holding down plate which presses the workpiece on to the bench.
