Disclosed is an apparatus to brake a reel in a video cassette recorder. The apparatus comprises a braking portion, the first and second link mechanisms. The braking portion includes a main brake and a soft brake which are aligned to an axis, and controls the supplying reels in various directions. The first link mechanism moves with the braking portion of supplying reels selected. The second link mechanism moves with the braking portion of winding reels selected. Thereby, because the main brake and a soft brake which are aligned to an axis, several components are not necssary.
