The invention relates to a sparking plug, especially for an internal combustion engine, with at least one high-voltage electrode and at least one ground electrode, an electrically insulation ceramic body and a surface discharge path between the high-voltage and the ground electrodes. This spark plug is characterized in that the body (13) is given a coating (15), at least in the surface discharge path region, with aluminium oxide as the main component and 10 to 50 vol.% of zirconium oxide as the secondary component.
