Internal combustion engine with crankshaft and balancing shafts

The internal combustion engine has a reciprocating piston and a crankshaft (1). The latter is parallel to two balancing shafts (6,7), which rotate in opposite directions. The balancing shafts are hollow and rotate on a common axle (8), which is supported in a single bearing cover (4) for the crankshaft. The axis may be arranged roughly in the centre of the bearing cover, relative to its longitudinal extent. The balancing shafts may have rotary mountings on freely projecting spigots (9,10) on both sides of the seat of the bearing, and may be driven by wheels (11,12) which are arranged between them and the bearing cover.
