<p>To provide a printing device (1) capable of automatically detecting the type of the roll paper (6a), the printing device (1) comprises a movable flange abutting member (17) adapted to be pressed against an outer periphery of said flange (6c) of the holder of the paper roll (6) supported in said paper roll support mechanism, said flange (6c) having an outer diameter set in correspondence with the type of said roll paper (6a); a detection unit (11) of paper type adapted to be subjected to positioning by said outer periphery of the flange (6c) for detecting said type of the roll paper (6a); a detection unit (36) of paper presence/absence provided at a printing portion (PP) in facing relation to said platen (3) to detect the presence of said roll paper (6a) without contact thereto; a detection unit (41) for detecting the leading end of said roll paper (6a) arranged between said printing portion (PP) and a cutting portion (CP) to be subjected to a printing operation; and control means (22) for controlling actions of the relevant portions on the basis of the detection result of each detection unit (11, 36, 41). <IMAGE></p> |
