A reactor is provided with a laminated magnetic member 15 arranged at one end of the reactor coil 10 to provide a low reluctance path for the reactor flux. The air-cored coil is contained in a porcelain casing 12 closed by a stress distributer 13 connected to the supply line 14. The magnetic member 15 is in the form of a flat annulus of radially arranged transformer laminations, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), two coils wound in opposite directions are employed, with magnetic members of generally rectangular shape and semi-circular ends at each end of the pairs of coils. The casing may be correspondingly shaped, or two cylinders used, Fig. 6 (not shown). |
