The vehicle anti-theft system comprises a switch (4) for inhibiting the operation of the engine, and at least two devices for detecting the departure of the driver from the vehicle. These devices may include a pressure sensor under the driver's seat, a switch detecting the closure of the door, a sensor detecting the operation of the interior light or a sensor switch associated with the handbrake or the gearbox of the vehicle. A central electronic unit (1) received input from these detectors, and provides the output which is able to permit or inhibit engine operation. A keypad (5) may also be provided enabling the driver to enter a code before the vehicle can be operated. |
