The system has multiple remote computer terminals (S) where the order is entered. Each remote terminal has a file holding data relative to the components needed for construction of the ordered item. The order is transmitted from the terminals to a central installation (14) via a communication network such as the internet. The remote computers also receive data from the central installation on assembled items in stock. The central installation has a computer to control the facilities (15) that assemble that item. The central installation has an automated store (16) for the components, and machines (18) to assemble the components to produce the ordered item. The control computer manages both the storage and the assembly. |
