PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium of high quality having large enhancement for the Kerr effect and showing excellent S/N and little decrease in the reflectance of a reflection film for tracking in which stable tracking characteristics can be obtd. SOLUTION: This magneto-optical recording medium is produced by forming a reflection film 15 for tracking, a coating film 16 to cover the reflection film 15, and a recording layer 17 on the coating film 16 on a substrate 12. An interference layer 14 is formed between the substrate 12 and the reflection film 15 for tracking. The coating layer 16 and the interference layer 14 are made of a light-transmitting material having higher refractive index than the substrate. Each film thickness of the interference layer 14 and the coating film 16 is about 1/8 wavelength A of the reproducing light in each layer, namely, λ/8 or λ/8 plus multiple of integer of λ/2 (λ/8+mλ/2, wherein (m) is a natural number). |
