A windscreen wiper assembly comprises a spindle (30) mounted for rotation in a sleeve. A portion (32) of the spindle (30) projecting beyond the sleeve is of cylindrical form, and is externally splined. A wiper body comprises a housing (40) provided with an internally splined cylindrical bore (42) to receive the portion of the spindle (6). The bore (42) is located over the portion (32) and the housing (40) is brought into driving engagement with the spindle (30) by tightening of a screw-threaded means, the splines fitting into the bore (42). A slot (44) extends from the bore towards the interior of the housing. The slot (44) extends from the bore (42) on the interior side of the housing, and in particular on the side of the bore from which the instrumentalities, in the form of a wiper arm (45), extend. In this manner the slot does not open from the housing, and is bounded on all sides by wall Portions of the housing. The screw-threaded means closes the slot (44) and tightens the bore (42) onto the splines, to bring the housing (40) into driving engagement with the spindle. In addition, means (34, 36) are provided to introduce lubricating fluid into the spindle in its axial direction.
