The rescue crane may be mounted on a boat or small ship and may be used for picking boats and people out of the water. It has a central column (1) carrying a jib (2) with a piston and cylinder unit (3) moving a pulley (4). There is a further pulley (5) near the tip of the jib. The tip (10) of the jib is slightly downturned and has two pulleys (11,12) over which the wire (6), attached to a hook (8), passes.
