A sleeve (10) has a sleeve-shaped body (12) made of thermoplastic material for joining pipes (24) made of thermoplastic material. A heat conductor (18) is embedded in the sleeve body (12), close to its inner wall (14). A ring-shaped ridge (16) projects from the inner wall (14) of the sleeve body (12), acting as a stop and additional welding point for the front faces (26) of the pipes (24) to be joined. The heat conductor (18) also extends into the ridge (16). The pipes (24) are inserted into the sleeve body (12), with their front faces (26) turned towards each other, until they are stopped by the ring-shaped ridge (16). The sleeve body (12) and the ends of the pipes (24) covered by the sleeve body (12) are partially molten and welded together by supplying energy to the heat conductor (18). Thanks to the ridge, melting is uniform and welding is reliably achieved even with large-sized and thick-walled pipes. |
