The gas measurement system (1) includes a pump (3) to transfer a given volume (Ve) of a gas sample. The sample contains a component to be detected through colour alteration of a reagent (5) which reacts with the component. When this occurs, a detector (9) produces a signal proportional to the colour change, and hence to the concentration (C) of the component in the sample. This taken as the actual value of the colour change, E(t). In the system, a function generator (16) increases the set value (Ve) of volume delivery at the pump (3) during the measurement cycle. Also claimed is the corresponding procedure for gas concentration determination.
