Memory modules (1030, 1031) each have a register E 02 , E 12 storing a base address. Each module also knows the size of its own memory. An operating and comparing means E 03 , E 13 subtracts the base address from an input address of a location to be accessed, and if the result lies within the correct address range (eg zero - size) of the memory then that location is accessed. Alternatively, the base register may store only a partial base address (Fig 11b), with the high bits of the address being operated on while the low bits are passed through to the memory.
